Burke Mountain School update

Here is an update on Burke Mountain schools from Mr. Craig Hodge Councilor for the City of Coquitlam.  

The Coquitlam school board outlined its’ plans for schools for Burke Mountain at a packed public meeting at Leigh school Tuesday night. 

It announced plans to build the middle school on the same property as the proposed Secondary school. Located at the corner of David and Coast Meridian adjacent the 7-eleven.

Home values in Heritage Woods

April of this year has seen an incredible appetite for homes in the Tri-Cities, but no other area has seen more action and bidding wars than Heritage Woods and Heritage Mountain. Home values in Heritage Woods and Heritage Mountain are up, up, up!

Out of all 12 neighbourhoods in Port Moody, Heritage Woods and Heritage Mountain have the best odds for sellers. Meaning the demand and potential selling price are in favour of the sellers. In April of this year, 100% of the townhomes and duplexes in Heritage Mountain sold, leaving buyers thirsty for more inventory. In Heritage Woods in the same month 63% of the same style homes sold.

New Queenston Park on Burke Mountain is open!

Oh to be a kid again! The new Queenston Park on Burke Mountain is simply amazing. Open just in time to take advantage of this fantastic weather we are having. Consequently, we see this park being a big hit all summer while kids are out of school and looking for something fun to do.

The neighbourhood park is 1.38 acres, cost 1 million dollars to build and is located at 3415 Queenston Ave., just north of Coast Meridian Road and David Avenue.

Port Moody Sellers Market

Home sales across the Tri-Cities spiked in April, continuing to create a seller’s market. Throughout Port Moody buyers looking for a detached house on a standard-size lot are finding rising list prices. Winning bids often far exceeding the asking price; the Port Moody housing market is hot. Port Moody is a sellers market.

The benchmark price for a detached Port Moody home reached $963,300, which is a 2.6% increase from last month. And an 8.1% increase from February 2014. While Single family homes sold for a median price of $870,000. Townhouses at $435,000 and Apartments and Condos went for an average price of $346,000.

Market changes in Burke Mountain

It would be hard to find a buyer or seller in the Tri-Cities that is unaware of how the market has shifted in the past 6 months. Turn on the news and you will hear about the extremely hot real estate market. Today, we wanted to blog about the market changes in the last 5 years in Burke Mountain homes.

With over 70% of the Burke Mountain residents only residing in the area for less than 3 years, and knowing that the Mountain was only truly developed 6 years ago, we wanted to see how prices have changed over the last year and break it down by type of property.

The Transit Referendum – What kind of Future Do We Want?

The Coquitlam Crunch- a local Coquitlam fitness tradition

The Coquitlam Crunch is a well-known local hiking trail and a fantastic workout loved by all Tri-Cities locals. It is the perfect workout that can be done in under and hour. Burning a ton of calories and enjoying astonishing views Mount Baker. This local Coquitlam fitness tradition is a 5 kilometre round trip. The highest elevation point at 320 meters (about 80 storeys). It is considered a moderate rated trail in the difficulty scale. The trail runs from Guildford Way to the top of Westwood Plateau at Eagle Mountain, along a BC Hydro right of-way. The Crunch is part of the city’s 90-kilometre trail system, which includes a portion of the Trans-Canada Trail. It was originally part of the “Green Links” initiative, which dates back to the mid-1990s.

Park plans Burke Mountain

If you are wondering about some of the changes coming to Burke Mountain, we have a great update area parks.

In December of 2014, council and city staff presented a series of conceptual plans for both Victoria Park and Leigh Park. The two parks are being developed together to ensure amenities at each park are complementary to each other.

Burke Mountain’s Little Free Library

Last Saturday, we were invited to a client’s World Cup party at Farrington Park. This is walking distance from our house.

We enjoyed a fantastic afternoon with our client’s friend and neighbours. After some food and drinks we played a great game of Football (soccer) in the fenced-in floor Hockey rink . We played kids vs parents and we had an incredible time kicking the ball around as most of us have been bitten by the World Cup bug.
