Westwood Plateau Coquitlam

Westwood Plateau is a master-planned community developed by Wesbild Holdings Ltd. Now home to some 15,000 people, it is one of the most desirable suburban neighbourhoods in the metropolitan area of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Until 1989, Westwood Plateau consisted of a 1,400 acre parcel of undeveloped hillside at the northern edge of the City of Coquitlam, a suburban municipality 25 km 15 miles east of Vancouver. Comprising the lower slopes of Eagle Mountain, the site was owned by the Provincial government with a portion leased to a sports car club for use as a racetrack. The Westwood racetrack attracted car enthusiasts to the site from 1956 until the track closed in 1990.

The community was an instant success, with some 400 to 600 homes being built each year during the early and mid 1990's. Two highly visible Street of Dreams events were hosted by Wesbild and participating builders, in 1992 and 1994. Homes of up to $2 million were built in conjunction with these events. Over 100 independent house-building companies have built homes within the community such as Intergulf, Polygon, Parklane, Liberty Homes and Portrait Homes.

Homes encompass a wide range of types, from affordable apartments through townhomes, efficient single-family homes on compact lots, conventional suburban homes, and large estate homes. The completed community will comprise 4,525 homes of various types. Sizes of single-family lots range in width from 34 feet to over 100 feet. Regardless of lot size and house type, Wesbild has maintained a high standard of design through registered design guidelines. Special landscape elements such as street boulevards with meandering sidewalks, coordinated street trees and special streetlights add to the ambiance of the community. The distinctive treatment in the landscape helps to convey the impression of a very desirable place to live.

Westwood Plateau residents can do more than just live there. Wesbild has provided two outstanding amenities in the form of golf facilities. The Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club is a world-class facility with 18 holes of challenging play and magnificent views of the valley and surrounding mountains. The Westwood Plateau Golf Academy provides 9 holes of executive play, plus 3 practice holes and a 66 stall driving range with two levels. Stunning clubhouse architecture completes the golf experience. All the golf facilities are fully open to the public.

Other amenities within Westwood Plateau are playgrounds and natural park areas, five public schools, neighbourhood convenience stores, a community shopping center, churches and an extensive system of trails. The area mall offers every convenience from boutique stores to IGA, Rogers video and Shopper Drug Mart. Walking within the community is a common pastime, and with over 5 miles of trails, there are plenty of areas to explore. Nearly half of the 1400-acre site has been retained as park or open space.
